Can't install software for DVR (ActiveX)

I've installed this in the past and it's worked without issue.  When trying to connect to the DVR, if the ActiveX control isn't installed it tells you to download it and sends you to the file.  Once you download it and run it in installs a small program and the ActiveX control.  What I'm getting is the program is installing, but not the ActiveX so IE still won't open the site.

If you want to look at the program it's here - http://www.xmsecu.com:8080 - in the lower right click on Download Web.  The program is active.exe.  I have tried it on IE9 (Windows 7) and IE 8 (Windows XP) with the same results.

After installing there should be a new add on in IE that is visible in Tools, View Add-Ons and it should be:

Name:                   NetSurveillance Control
Publisher:              Not Available
Type:                   ActiveX Control
Version:                1. 1. 0. 72

Any thoughts on what's going wrong?

We have this issue with speco camera systems. All of the files needed are kept in cab files when the activex install comes up (at least for speco). I manually extract the cab files contents to a directory. Then run regsvr32 on all of the .dll files and the .ocx files in that directory(from a cmd window run as administrator). If you cannot identify the cab files - maybe you can find on the old machine.

You can also go into IE options/security and temporarily allow all activex options - many are disabled by default. This will allow the installation.

There should be a pop up for the Active X component that you need to install to continue installing updates. It usually pops up at the top of the browser as a long yellow box. Click on it and click install to continue.

If you are still having issues, try installing Service pack 3 from the install on Microsoft website. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24

Failing that check your objects in IE. Tools > Internet Options > Objects. Delete any windows updates related entries.

I've had plenty of issues with XP updates and the error codes are useless and the links get you nowhere... Good luck!

Is the ActiveX control signed properly?  If not, IE probably wouldn't allow the install unless you add the site to Trusted, and change some settings regarding how stringently IE checks ActiveX controls before allowing them to load.

I'm not sure... I know that in the past (on 7 and XP) I didn't have to change anything to install it.  And I'm not getting any kind of error message about it - it just doesn't seem to be trying.  But maybe it's being blocked in the background.  I'll lower settings and see what happens.

I bet you $100 you will have to use Internet Explorer 6 or 7 to use that camera dvr webpage.  And it wont work on IE for mac either.

I had a client buy a new Windows 7 laptop and a Costco DVR camera system and ran into this issue.

Check the documentation or the box, some of the cheap Chinese models will not state the requirements exactly.

Also, if the DVR doesn't support H.264, you can't watch video on your iPhone over the internet and I would take it back for a h.264 or JAVA based one instead of ActiveX

I am using it on my personal PC, running Windows 7 64 bit and on my laptop which uses Windows 7 32 bit.  I had no trouble installing it on either of those, though it was over a year ago.

I'm sure the issue is with the installer... it's just not putting the activeX control in for some reason.

I just tried it on an XP virtual machine with IE 6 and got the same results.

I have all the files from the PCs that this is working on... does anyone know if there is a way to install an activeX control manually?  Some command line option or something?

I have issues with certain activex controls not working in the 64bit browser. Try launching the 32 bit version of IE and try again.

- Reset IE to defaults (Tools --> Internet Options --> Advanced --> Reset).

- Delete cookies and temporary internet files (Tools --> Internet Options --> "delete" button under browsing history).

- Close IE.  Reopen.  Try to access DVR and reinstall ActiveX add-on.

We have this issue with speco camera systems. All of the files needed are kept in cab files when the activex install comes up (at least for speco). I manually extract the cab files contents to a directory. Then run regsvr32 on all of the .dll files and the .ocx files in that directory(from a cmd window run as administrator). I never tried it in the 64 bit IE.

So close!  The ocx files all registered and now the add-on shows in IE.  I can login to the DVR and the windows for the cameras appear.  I can get to the management screens too.  But video isn't playing.  When I tried to register the DLL files I got the attached error.

Any more ideas?  Thanks for the help so far - it's almost there!

Never mind.  It started working!  No idea why it didn't at first.  Apparently the DLLs aren't needed though, just the OCX.

Thanks!
