FaceRig - Holotech Studios
Hello awesome folks,

Ninja edit on the 22'nd of December: FaceRig is now part of the Steam Winter sale! 50% off the base version and other discounts (from 90% to 10%) for Avatar DLC's :)
Not much else to add right now, so we won't be spamming you with a new announcement just for these two lines!

Winter Holidays are approaching pretty fast so we’ve added Two New Free Avatars: Cyborg Baron and Seal of Wisdom. Make sure to update FaceRig to check them out.
Also the Winter Holiday 2015 DLC is available for purchase! It contains five cute holiday themed avatars.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/420821/

Surprise your family and friends with these adorable creatures!

Here is the Change log:
  • added GIF maker. See Advanced UI > Export Performance as Movie from top bar > Export GIF tab. Note that GIF recording is live, not based on a replay file, although we are planning in adding an "export performance to GIF" feature at some point in time.
    Observations:
    • by default the exported GIF is scaled to a quarter of the original size to speed up the processing (use the option "Quarter Scale" to deactivate if needed)
    • you can choose to crop the rendered view using the "Crop" option and making a selection in "Crop Mode"
    • Careful with the resolution and length, these files can get pretty HUGE
  • added two new avatars: Cyborg Baron and Seal of Wisdom
  • (2D modding) 2d avatar folder name does not need to have the same name as the .moc file anymore
  • fixed the exposure issue when launching the separate rendering window
  • on DX9, the Simple Postprocessing option now triggers the rendering of the UI and user's webcam feed in the broadcast feed. Due to this issue, we have temporarily disabled the option on DX9 until we find a suitable solution.
  • FaceRig automatically streams to the FaceRig Virtual Microphone as long as the Broadcast option is set. This means that to broadcast sound, there is no need to change the playback device in FaceRig, nor is it required to activate sound loopback.

Have an awesome week,
FaceRig Team

P.S: We will be on vacation during the winter holidays, so support will be limited throughout this period.
We wish you all the best and loads of fun during the holidays ^.^

Hello awesome folks,

Following our latest Starbound community poll, we've added two new FREE licensed avatars.
Yes, we are talking about Glitch and Novakid!!

Here's a short preview :D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmp0lPWgfwY

Change log :
  • updated the ImportWizardNew to check for rendering engine supported textures
  • fixed window maximize option issues: window is now fully visible (it takes into account the lower taskbar) and chooses the correct monitor, in case the user has more than one.
  • removed predefined textures from all mask customization options
  • fixed a prop issue, if you changed the skins of an avatar with props repeatedly, the props would duplicate.
  • fixed scale customization issues
  • fixed some crashes regarding initializing the render window
  • (Starbound DLC) Added Glitch and Novakid

On a side note, FaceRig and its DLS's are currently on sale on Steam.
Don't miss the chance to get them at a lower price.

Also on Friday the first round in our Video Contest ends, so if you have a video using FaceRig feel free to submit here.
Or participate during the following weeks. Each week we will choose five lucky and creative winners!

Have a good one,
The FaceRig Team

Feeling creative? Up for winning some amazing Prizes?
Well, this is your chance! We are launching a new video contest for all our existing users where you can demonstrate your mad skills as a video creator ^.^

How to submit
  • use FaceRig to make a video about anything you consider (even slightly) geeky : cool tech, nifty gadgets, upcoming movies, comics and so on.
  • Upload that video to a video sharing site of your choice,
  • Submit a link to us as a reply to the contest announcement on Steam and you can win codes for FaceRig Pro Upgrades, for paid avatar addons or even extra keys for the base program that you can gift to your friends.

All you have to do to make the video is to Record Your Performance, export it as a video file and then upload that video file to a public video-sharing site like Youtube! The video must be for public view.

Prizes
Each winner will receive:
- 1 Steam code for the Facerig Pro DLC ($64,99 )
- 1 Steam code for the Facerig Halloween 2014 DLC ( $4,99)
- 1 Steam code for the Facerig Halloween 2015 DLC ( $4,99)

You can keep these or gift them to your friends. ( Also, if you are not interested in monetizing your FaceRig content and just want some extra Steam keys to gift to your friends, you can ask us to change your FaceRig Pro DLC code to a bundle of 4 FaceRig Classic codes)

Judging:
This contest will last for four weeks, each week the FaceRig team will choose up to five winners with the most entertaining videos, and announce them on social media.
Do not get discouraged if your video was not picked on the first try, it can still be selected the following weeks, as the participation will be considered valid the whole period of the contest. However you can only win one prize, not multiple ones.

The rules are simple:
  • You can have as many entries as you like, as long as they are yours and not previously submitted in other official FaceRig contests. You can only win once though.
  • You must be the original creator, or to be specifically mandated by the original creator to enter his/her work in our contest. If you are doing this for someone else, you must provide us with a way of contacting the original creator to confirm your status. If he/she does not reply in time, the video submitted will be disqualified.
  • Videos may be disqualified if their content is inappropriate, such as excessively lewd behavior, are in any way harmful to minors or incite to real-word hate or violence.
    Use common sense folks :)

Got you fired up? Lights, Action Camera!!!

Link to the contest rules here.

FaceRig - Holotech Studios
Hello Awesome People,

We’ve updated all FaceRig branches with awesome new features! Here is a super-brief summary:
  • localization support now available to everyone
  • more technical features enabling you to build and share kick-arse
    content
  • optimizations for improving performance on low-end computers
  • a brand-new free avatar
And now the details
FaceRig v1.226 (build 717 Holotech Studios - Nov 18 2015) - all branches :

  • the localized strings from the “nextversion” branch have been touched up and added to the “default” branch. Note that we are constantly adding features to the application and UI elements, that means there will always be some untranslated texts, (until we reach a large enough set of string to localize them). Language support for: English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Italian. To change language, switch to the advanced UI, go to General option-> Language.

  • added My FaceRig tab (from Help dialog in the Advanced UI). It is a minimalist item browser for FaceRig-generated content. For now, you can find two galleries (screenshots and videos) which allow you to share items on Facebook, upload videos to Youtube and generally easily find your items on disk.

  • added Separate Render Window feature for those who want the Avatar and Background without any UI elements showcased on a separate display, while also having a the UI available in the original window (maybe you have a secondary monitor/projector that you use to entertain an audience). Activate this feature from General Options dialog > Preference tab > General sub-tab > Toggle Separate Window option . A new window will appear. You can move it around and/or maximize it on a secondary monitor.

  • added another graphics option that could help users with limited GPU/CPU resources. Activate the "Simplified Postprocessing" option from General Options dialog > Graphics tab. Note that this option will invalidate most of the Backgrounds Customization and Postprocessing options (No more Bloom, DoF and such).

  • added Youtube upload option for video files

  • added Facebook share option for video files

  • added drag and drop feature. You can drag avatar and background customization files over FaceRig to apply them to the current Avatar and Background. Also, works for tracking configuration files. Dragging a .rpl file will automatically play it.

  • added "Photo-Realistic Turkey" avatar

  • Some users were unhappy with the fact that the greenscreen backdrop does not always have the exact same RGB value. We have thus changed the 2d picture backdrop shader, (including greenscreen), to no longer be affected by the virtual HDR camera adaptation. Now you can chroma-key with more precision. This will however have as a side effect by default the characters to be very dark if your background picture is overly bright and viceversa. For instance on the green-screen the render's camera iris will adapt to the very bright green background so you will have to either dial all light parameters up, or limit the camera's HDR adaptation. Advanced UI -> Environments->PostProcessing: Dial down the Tonemapping Range Max value until it has almost the same value as Tone Mapping Range Min. This only affects the Greenscreen , web-backdrop and custom 2d backdrop.

  • added a new alternate importer script (note that the old one still remains). The main difference between the new and old importer is the way it handles animations. The old version relies on certain bone names and specific animation relations that could not be updated with ease. The new importer script requires animations as FaceRig needs them but it gives the liberty to choose the bone hierarchy. It also enables us to keep up to date the features exposed to the community artists.

Here is the link to the official guide to the new importer script and also here is the link to an Example

We are always researching and implementing features for a better user experience. Let us know your thoughts about all the above changes either here in the comments or on the forum.
